Beware Philosophy and Vain Deceit: Colossians 2:8

Beware lest any man spoil you

Through philosophy and vain deceit,

After the tradition of men,

After the rudiments of the world,

And not after Christ

Colossians 2:8 KJV

See to it that no one takes you captive

Through hollow and deceptive philosophy,

Which depends on human tradition

And the elemental spiritual forces of this world

Rather than on Christ.

Colossians 2:8 NIV

Paul warns of three heresies in this passage: Gnosticism, legalism, and ascetism. These heresies lead to division, while Christ leads to unity.

There is neither Jew nor Greek,

There is neither bond [slave] nor free,

There is neither male nor female:

For ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 3:28, KJV

Ya no hay judío ni griego;

No hay esclavo ni libre;

No hay varón ni mujer;

Porque todos vosotros

Sois uno en Cristo Jesús.

Gálatas 3:28, RV 1960
